Summer 2012 Institutes

Summer Institute in ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’
Monday 25 June to Friday 29 June 2012

Ms. Louise Gardiner, Homburg Adjunct Assistant Professor in Business Ethics, will run a week-long workshop on ‘Business Ethics’ and ‘Corporate Social Responsibility for the Real Estate Firm’. A former official of the World Bank, Ms. Gardiner continues to advise governments and companies about business practices. Real estate firms have a particular responsibility to the environment, a topic on which she currently works with national and city governments in China. The workshop forms a capstone element in the course ‘Ethics and Responsibility for the Real Estate Firm,’ which is part of the Homburg Executive Master of Real Estate program.

Summer Institute in ‘Negotiation’
Monday 25 June to Friday 29 June 2012

Students following the Master of Real Estate course in ‘Strategic Negotiation’ will attend a negotiation simulation at the Homburg Institute Canada, in PEI, Canada, as a Capstone element of their course. The Course Convenor, Dr. Juan Diaz, began his international career in negotiation as Political Advisor to the UN Negotiator for Bosnia-Herzegovina. Dr. Diaz currently serves as Director and Chairman of the Board of the CSSProject for Integrative Mediation. He has mediated in over 60 communities and conducted interest-based negotiation workshops with over 150 political leaders. Dr. Diaz will also give a public lecture on the mediation of resource-based conflicts, a topic of special interest in international real estate. More detail specifications to come.

Summer Institute in ‘Urban Design and Planning’
Charlottetown - Monday 2 July 2012 to Friday 6 July 2012

Dr. Piotr Lorens, Head of Department of Planning at the Gdansk Technical University in Poland, and Member of the Homburg Academic Advisory Board, will run a week-long intensive Summer Institute at the Homburg Institute Canada in Charlottetown, as part of his course in ‘Planning’ in the Master of Real Estate program. Dr. Lorens will meet with students at the beginning of his course to ensure that they are conversant with a subject in which they may not have any prior background before taking the rest of the course through online video-conferencing. This will ensure that students receive the best possible support and guidance in the course. This course is compulsory for students wishing to take a specialisation in Planning, as a Study Abroad student at the Gdansk Technical University, an option in the Homburg Master of Real Estate.
