Acquisition of all intended learning outcomes listed under 12.A is through a combination of lecture/seminars in compulsory Core, Specialist, and Elective modules providing an opportunity to develop a critical engagement with the subject matter through lectures and/or small-group seminars.
Teaching and Learning: Lecture presentations and seminar discussions are led by members of academic staff and other expert guest lecturers who offer specialist expertise. The mode of delivery is blended (`hybrid`), incorporating online video-based lectures and interactive video-conferencing seminars, as well as classroom discussion. In all teaching interaction, lecturers and seminar leaders use an appropriate mix of formal presentation and interactive learning environments, such as seminar discussions, student break-out discussions, or student group work. An appropriate range of visual presentation media is employed. Such methods for teaching and learning may take place in the classroom or in the online learning environment.
Assessment: The learning outcomes are assessed through a combination of unseen written examinations, oral presentations, assessed coursework, and project work. Student progress in their learning and achievement is monitored on an ongoing basis by the course convenor and, where different, also the seminar leader.
For the Master-level programs in all versions: Students consolidate their learning through the Capstone Course, used to integrate the learning achieved in the rage of modules. Students utilise real case studies, and develop group work and presentation skills.
For the Master-level programs except the Executive pathway: Students write a Dissertation on an approved topic under academic supervision which enables students to enhance their general research and writing skills.
For the Executive Master in Real Estate: Students write a Final Project independently, which enables them to integrate their knowledge and understanding in a sustained individual empirical project, such as the analysis of a case study, and to develop general research and communication skills. |

13. Program Structure: Levels, Credits and Awards
|
|
For the PgCert., PDipl, and all versions of the Masters program:
The program is offered on both a full-time and a part-time basis. Full-time students complete the program in two years and part-time students may complete the program in up to six years (for fuller exposition of the time periods, see the Academic Regulations).
Study on the program is divided into a number of courses. As the Academy will admit students on a rolling basis, there is no specific order in which the courses in Part I must be taken save for the Capstone Case Study course for which all other Part 1 courses are pre-requisite.
Each course carries a weight of 20 credits of the Homburg Academy, which is equal to 10 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System credits). One credit corresponds to approximately 10 hours of learning time. Thus, each course requires approximately 200 hours of learning time. This includes all taught and supervised classes and all private study and research.
The Academy makes no differentiation between a coursework-based course, and a research-based course. Capstone Case Study, the Dissertation, and the Final Project also each carry 20 credits.
For the PgCert. in Real Estate:
The Postgraduate Certificate in Real Estate program is comprised of 120 Credits of the Homburg Academy (60 ECTS Credits), earned through coursework. There is no Dissertation element to the Postgraduate Certificate program.
As such, students are not required to take the research training-oriented courses (which include RES814 Research in Real Estate Business, and DATA824 Data Analysis and Critical Thinking), however they may elect to do so.
Students therefore take 6 courses of 20 Credits (10 ECTS), for a total learning time of 1,200 hours.
Students may take any combination of courses, except the Capstone Case Study (CASE820).
For the PDipl in Real Estate:
The PDipl program is comprised of 200 Credits of the Homburg Academy (100 ECTS Credits), earned through coursework. There is no Dissertation element to the Postgraduate Diploma program.
As such, students are not required to take the research training-oriented courses (which include RES814 Research in Real Estate Business, and DATA824 Data Analysis and Critical Thinking), however they may elect to do so.
Students therefore take 10 courses of 20 Credits (10 ECTS), for a total learning time of 2000 hours.
Students may take any combination of courses. (Students are advised in their choice of courses, and they are informed of the possibility of upgrading to the Masters program. In view of this, students are advised in their selection of Core, Specialist, and Elective courses.)
For all versions of the Masters program:
The Master of Real Estate consists of 15 courses, of 20 credits each (300 credits), consisting of 3,000 notional hours of study.
Students may progress to Stage II (the research stage) of the program on satisfactory completion of Stage I as determined by a meeting of the Board of Examiners (the “Progression Board”, for further information see the Academic Regulations).
A student may end his or her program of study on completion of Stage I and be eligible for the award of the Diploma or Certificate, provided that the student has accumulated the requisite number of credits (see the Academic Regulations, “Fallback and Exit Awards”).
For the Executive Master in Real Estate:
The Executive Master in Real Estate is distinguished by the removal of the requirement that students take the research training-oriented courses (which include RES814 Research in Real Estate Business, and DATA824 Data Analysis and Critical Thinking), however they may elect to do so.
In place of these, students take an additional two Elective courses of their choice.
Students in the Executive Master of Real Estate also substitute the `Final Project` (a more practically-oriented final project) in place of the `Dissertation`.
Optional Study Abroad:
The Master in Real Estate (Online) program also enables full-time students to spend an optional term at a partner institution as detailed below.
